Capacity Gains of Splitting Cross-Traffic into Multiple Sub-Streams

نویسندگان

چکیده

Traffic flow might be limited by cross-traffic which has priority. A typical example of such a situation is location where cyclists or pedestrians cross stream car traffic. Splitting the into two separate sub-streams (for instance left–right and right–left) can increase capacity main stream. This because it no longer necessary to have sufficiently large gap in both simultaneously. paper introduces method compute resulting roads with cross-traffic. Without loss generality, we introduce three transformations simplify computations. These are an important contribution paper, allowing us create scalable graphs for capacity. Overall, research shows that splitting crossing equally increases If there place one vehicle between sub-streams, up threefold. Even larger gains possible more vehicles between. presents used find generic situations, developing guidelines on intersection design.

Scalable Splitting of Massive Data Streams

Scalable execution of continuous queries over massive data streams often requires splitting input streams into parallel sub-streams over which query operators are executed in parallel. Automatic stream splitting is in general very difficult, as the optimal parallelization may depend on application semantics. To enable application specific stream splitting, we introduce splitstream functions whe...

Modeling Broadband Traffic Streams

This paper presents the M/Pareto model as a potentially useful tool in the modeling of broadband traffic streams. We show that this model can be used to accurately estimate the queueing performance of a variety of realistic multimedia traffic streams. We also show a practical way to fit the parameters of the model with those of the real traffic stream. We also point out that it it is not practi...

Lane-changing in traffic streams

It is postulated that lane-changing vehicles create voids in traffic streams, and that these voids reduce flow. This mechanism is described with a model that tracks lane changers precisely, as particles endowed with realistic mechanical properties. The model has four easy-to-measure parameters and reproduces without re-calibration two bottleneck phenomena previously thought to be unrelated: (i)...

Statistical Multiplexing of Homogeneous Streams Results in Linear Bandwidth Gains

Statistical multiplexing of traffic streams results in reduced network bandwidth requirement. The resulting gain increases with the increase in the number of streams being multiplexed together. However, the exact shape of the gain curve, as more and more streams are multiplexed together, is not known. In this paper, we first present the generalized result that the statistical gain of combining ...

Integrating high quality video streams with FTP traffic over a noisy high capacity wireless cellular channel

In this paper we propose and evaluate a Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol for the efficient integration of high quality video traffic with ftp data packet traffic over a wireless cellular channel of very high capacity. We envision a system where the mobile terminals are considered to be high performance devices with extended storage capabilities which can act like cache memories streaming mu...
